Many people think that applying a low-cut filter on a master track will give you more headroom, but this is completely false (whether in linear phase mode or not). The key to sounding loud is having as much headroom as possible before entering a limiter/clipper. However, by doing this, the peak value of your track will be higher, and you will thus have less headroom (if you don't believe me, check the peak value of a sample before and after a low cut). Furthermore, linear phase mode does not introduce phase changes, but it does introduce pre-ringing, which is quickly audible on samples with strong transients (typically drums, kicks, snares, claps, etc.). Moreover, the key step in a song is not the mastering but the mixing, and if everything is well managed upstream, you will never need to do a low cut/high cut on your master. In short, it's bullshit.
